What we design and install
We install recessed and canless lights, LED tape and linear lights under cabinets, in coves and along stairs, light fixtures, and lighting controls. See our page on recessed lighting and LED conversion for the details of recessed work.
Free quote or design consultation?
A quote is always free, including a visit to your home to price a job you have already planned. The design consultation is for when you want help with the plan itself: fitting the lighting to the space, choosing the products and buying them. It costs $195, and $145 of it goes toward your installation when you book within 60 days.
The energy code, handled
When a home lighting project falls under California's energy code, recessed downlights have rules: the light source must be JA8-certified, the fixture cannot have a screw-in socket, and it must be airtight and sealed to the ceiling. We design and install to those rules. Our guide to Title 24 lighting requirements covers more.
See it before you choose
American Lighting LED tape and linear lights, Nora recessed trims and Legrand adorne switches and dimmers are on display at our San Diego location, 8020 Clairemont Mesa Blvd, inside the Fan Diego showroom. Fan Diego sells the lighting; we install it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does lighting design cost?
The in-home design consultation is $195, and $145 of it goes toward your installation when you book within 60 days. The installation itself is quoted before we start, and quotes are free. The price depends on how difficult the labor is, how long it takes, and the cost of the fixtures and materials.
Is the design consultation the same as a free quote?
No. A quote is always free, including a visit to price a job you have already planned. The design consultation is for help with the plan itself: fitting the lighting to the room, choosing products and buying them. That consultation is $195, with $145 credited toward your installation.
Can you install under-cabinet or cove lighting?
Yes. LED tape and linear lights fit under cabinets, in coves and along stairs. How the lights are powered and switched depends on the space, so we look at it when we quote and tell you what the installation involves before any work starts.
Can you install lighting I bought at Fan Diego?
Yes. We can pick up your fixtures and bring them on install day, or schedule delivery and installation together for a specific date. Products bought from Fan Diego come with a 180-day in-home product warranty, and you can ask us about extended parts coverage.
Do recessed lights have to meet California's energy code?
When your project falls under the energy code, yes. The light source must be JA8-certified, the fixture cannot have a screw-in socket, and it must be airtight and sealed to the ceiling. In practice that points to an integrated LED fixture or a code-compliant canless light. We design and install to those rules.
Do you pull permits, and how long does the work take?
When your job needs a permit, we pull it. Whether one is needed depends on the scope, so we tell you when we quote. Most jobs are done in a day or less; a larger lighting project can take longer, and we give you the time with the quote.
