Specialty Electric installs ceiling fans in homes across San Diego County: new fans, replacements of old fans, and light fixtures changed to fans. A fan has to hang from an electrical box listed for fan support, so we check the box before the fan goes up. A typical install costs $195 to $550, and you can see 250+ fans on display at the Fan Diego showroom in San Diego first.

What we install
We hang new ceiling fans, replace old ones, and change existing light fixtures to fans. Where you want a fan and there is no wiring in the ceiling yet, we can run it.
Why the electrical box matters
A ceiling fan is heavier than most light fixtures, and it moves. The electrical code (NEC 314.27(C)) says a box that holds up a fan by itself has to be listed and marked as suitable for fan support. It can't carry a fan over 70 lb, and for a fan over 35 lb its marking has to show the maximum weight it holds. A heavier fan needs support that doesn't depend on the box.
An ordinary light fixture box usually isn't enough on its own. When we change a light to a fan, we check the box and the framing above it first, and replace it when it needs it.

Frequently asked questions
How much does ceiling fan installation cost in San Diego?
A typical ceiling fan installation costs $195 to $550. Where yours falls depends on how difficult the labor is (for example, ceiling height, attic access, or whether a fan box or new wiring is needed), how long the job takes, and the cost of materials. Every install is quoted before we start. Call or use the form below for a quote.
Can you replace a light fixture with a ceiling fan?
Usually, yes. The box in the ceiling has to be listed for fan support, and most boxes installed for light fixtures are not. We check the box and the framing above it, then replace it when it needs it, so the fan is held securely before it is wired and hung.
What if there's no wiring where I want the fan?
We can run new wiring to the spot where you want the fan, along with a fan-rated box and a wall control. It adds time and materials, so it changes the quote. If the work needs a permit, we pull it, and we tell you when we quote the job.
Do I need a permit to install a ceiling fan?
It depends on the work. When your job needs a permit, we pull it. Whether one is needed depends on the scope, for example whether new wiring or a new circuit is involved, so we tell you when we quote the job.
How long does a ceiling fan installation take?
It depends on the job. Most jobs are done in a day or less. Several fans, high ceilings or new wiring add time, and we give you the time with the quote so you know what to plan for on install day.
What size ceiling fan do I need?
It depends on the room's size, the ceiling height and where people sit or sleep. If you're not sure, book an in-home design consultation: an electrician measures the room, checks the ceiling and wiring, and recommends what you need. The consultation is $195, and $145 of it goes toward your installation when you book within 60 days.
Is the installation guaranteed?
Yes. We guarantee our labor for life. Period. The fan itself carries its manufacturer's warranty, and products bought from Fan Diego also come with a 180-day in-home product warranty. Ask us about extended parts coverage on products from Fan Diego.
Can I see the fans in person before I buy?
Yes. Fan Diego's San Diego showroom at 8020 Clairemont Mesa Blvd has 250+ fans on display. If you buy there, we can pick up your fan and bring it on install day, or schedule delivery and installation together for a specific date.
